Magic Lands Alliance provides the overarching vision and strategic framework for MLA projects, bringing together cultural collaboration, research, education, screen development, community relationships and long-term legacy initiatives.
Creations
Magic Lands Alliance supports historical film productions grounded in truth-telling and developed in collaboration with First Nations and regional communities, transforming production sets into lasting cultural, educational and tourism infrastructure.
Through First Nations knowledge, historical and academic research, and consultation, we create opportunities beyond the screen — strengthening communities, supporting reconciliation and preserving stories and knowledge for future generations.
Reconciliation Through Action
For Magic Lands Alliance, reconciliation extends beyond acknowledgement. Through First Nations collaboration, truth-telling, cultural respect, education, participation and long-term impact, MLA seeks to create meaningful outcomes through the stories we tell and the projects we develop.
OUR PRINCIPLES
Truth-Telling
Historical storytelling should engage honestly with the complexity of the past. MLA supports research-led storytelling that brings together First Nations knowledge, oral histories, historical records, academic research and multiple perspectives.
Cultural Authority
First Nations stories, knowledge and cultural material require appropriate cultural guidance. MLA works with Traditional Owners, Elders, cultural advisers, knowledge holders and community members to support culturally informed development and decision-making.
Collaboration
Meaningful outcomes are built through relationships. MLA brings together First Nations communities, filmmakers, researchers, educators, regional communities, landholders, organisations and project partners around shared opportunities.
Knowledge & Education
Research developed through storytelling can have value far beyond a single production. MLA seeks to transform research, cultural knowledge and historical investigation into educational resources and learning experiences that can continue beyond the screen.
International Property & Cultural Knowledge
MLA distinguishes between commercial creative intellectual property and First Nations cultural knowledge, stories and cultural material. Appropriate permissions, attribution, cultural protocols and agreed usage arrangements are considered wherever culturally specific knowledge or material is incorporated into a project.
Governance Structure
Magic Lands Alliance operates within a project structure designed to separate creative intellectual property, screen production and long-term community and cultural initiatives.
This includes Magic Lands Creations Pty Ltd for intellectual property and creative development, dedicated production entities for individual screen projects, and the proposed Magic Lands Community Trust to support appropriate long-term cultural, educational and infrastructure initiatives.
