Film and storytelling are an important part of the Magic Lands Alliance model — bringing history, Culture, Country and community stories to audiences through powerful screen experiences.
Working alongside First Nations communities, cultural advisers, historians, communities and creative partners, MLA develops film and media projects grounded in research, collaboration, truth-telling and connection to place.
But the story does not necessarily end when production finishes.
MLA explores how the research, relationships, locations, historical environments, media assets and infrastructure developed through screen production can contribute to education, tourism, cultural interpretation, community experiences and future film and television production.

Creating Knowledge Through Production
MLA's screen model extends beyond the finished film. Where culturally appropriate and with relevant permissions, the production process itself can become an opportunity to document, preserve and share knowledge through educational and documentary-style digital media.
During production, MLA can capture behind-the-scenes stories, interviews and practical demonstrations showing how historical environments, traditional structures, props, costumes and other creative elements are researched, designed and created.
For the flagship Magic Lands: Ngarram project, this could include documenting First Nations cultural advisers, artists, builders and community members creating traditional structures, cultural objects and production elements, alongside historians, craftspeople, filmmakers and other contributors explaining the research and processes behind the production.
These materials can become a growing library of educational films, short documentaries, interviews, behind-the-scenes stories and digital learning assets with a life beyond the feature film.

MLA's flagship historical feature demonstrates how the Alliance's integrated model can bring together First Nations collaboration, historical research, dramatic storytelling, screen production, digital education, cultural infrastructure and tourism within one connected project.
The production is intended to generate not only the feature film, but a wider collection of educational, documentary and behind-the-scenes media assets, capturing aspects of the knowledge, craftsmanship, collaboration and historical research involved in bringing the story and its world to the screen.
